Early June the new leaves have begun to come out which can be seen reflected in my continuing ink drawing which, at the moment, has been the main focus of my parallel project.

I have finally managed to complete a little research into some contemporary Chinese Ink artists and by chance have found two whose work is extremely relevant to parts of this course I have just done and am about to embark on in part two, that of scaling up and the layered burnt drawings of the artist Wang Tiande which I will give a try.

Scaling up and texture is of great interest to me and so I decided to examine a dead petal that I collected from the tree last month. I will use coloured pencil for this in my A4 sketchbook.

I found this drawing harder than I thought it would be. Layering with Polychromos pencils and using a blending pencil in some areas, I feel the bottom leaf is more successful than the top as it was very difficult to represent the tiny textures of the leaf. I used a graphite pencil to add tiny veins and the shadows to give a three-dimensional feel.

I have also continued my long drawing with the new leaves starting to come out on the tree. I wasn't able to spend as much time on this drawing as I wanted, not getting a chance to start it until mid-June but I feel you get sense of the new light leaves compared to the darker dead petals of the previous months drawing.
