When I was in primary school, I practiced reading out in a hushed tone so I could hear myself read. The kids next to me laughed at me.
When I stepped into tertiary education, I was asked if I realised that I am a Malay because I typically expressed myself in English.
When I entered the workforce, I was called a show-off for my ability to speak fluently in English.
Parts of my life involved me being called a brownnoser because I was sought after to assist with English and communications related tasks.
So people have said unpleasant things in your journey to learn English. I know how it is. I don't just understand. I am not even empathetic. I know how it feels. All of those are just glances and words. They don't kill. And they never will.
It didn't kill me. And it sure won't kill you. Speak. Practice. Sleep. Repeat. Share a time you where you were knocked down but got back up to fight.
