Hello everyone! Today's wildflower is the "marsh grass of parnassus". A rather odd name for a very beautiful flower that is 3/4 to 1 inch (18 to 25mm) across and the plant can grow from 8 to 16 inches (20 to 40cm) tall. It is another water loving native wildflower, often growing in water, but not always. It is definitely not a commonly found wildflower up this way but it's always fun to find it. It blooms from August to September. Even though it has 'grass' in the name, it is not a grass, but without the flower at the top of the stem it would be hard to tell it apart from grasses around it. In Canada it can be found from BC to Quebec and in the US it is found from Michigan in the east across the northernmost states to the west coast and down to California and Nevada.
