We had a great Halloween tonight. The weather was nice (43-degrees & clear), the Vikings were on Sunday Night Football, the World Series Game Five was on, and we had 128 trick-or-treaters come to the door.
Our neighborhood usually has a lot of activity on Halloween, but last year was a real disappointment with the pandemic. A lot of parents kept their kids home, even though it was warmer and a Saturday night. We only had 85 kids stop by in 2020.
This year was a solid bounce back …
We give out full size bars to encourage the kids to come by. We started doing that when I stopped working five years ago for the fun of it. This year we had Hershey's, Reese's, and Kit Kats.
It costs about $75 for 5 boxes of 30 big bars. That's probably about a $50-$60 premium versus giving each kid a couple little 'fun size' bars, but kids really notice.
It's fun for us to give them out, although we always have some extra bars left over. It's hard to figure exactly what you need. We'll give some of the extra bars to our son and his friends and probably return the one unopened box to Costco.
