The Arizona Legislature passed a bill on March 23rd that should be rule #1 for every election in the United States.

House Bill 2492 states Arizona voters must provide proof of U.S. citizenship on voter registration forms.

Only U.S. citizens with proof of identification are eligible to vote in the state.

Arizona took the first step to secure elections for this country, ensuring all voters are legal citizens of the United States.

It's a shame not all states have this amount of common sense for free and fair elections.

The State Senate passed the bill on March 23rd by a vote of 16-12, with 12 Democrats voting against the legislation and two others opting not to vote.

As The Epoch Times noted, the Arizona House already voted in favor of the legislation that now heads to the desk of Republican Governor Doug Ducey.

The bill requires that every voter be a citizen of the United States and able to provide satisfactory evidence of such. The legislation states that the county recorder or other officer in charge of elections must reject any application for registration that isn't accompanied by satisfactory evidence of citizenship.

"The Attorney General shall prosecute individuals who are found to not be United States citizens," the bill states, referring to noncitizens who attempt to register to vote.

Democrats say the measure is part of an effort to suppress voting in the battleground state.

Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs called on Ducey to veto the bill, saying in a Twitter post that it "creates new, unnecessary barriers for people registering to vote."

Testifying March 23 on why House Bill 2492 should become state law, Republican Sen. Warren Petersen, chairman of the state Senate's Judiciary Committee, said it would bolster election integrity.

"The issue is making sure the citizens of our country are voting … and if you're not a citizen of this country, you're not allowed to vote," he said.
