Sedna is a dwarf planet in the outer reaches of the Solar System. It's currently in the innermost part of its orbit only 12.6 billion km from the Sun—roughlyt three times farther than Neptune. Sedna's surface composition is mostly a mixture of water, methane, and nitrogen ices with tholins. Although you can't tell from the black and white Hubble image on the left, its surface is one of the reddest among Solar System objects. At least for now, Sedna is tied with Ceres as the largest planetoid not known to have a moon.
