We took the scenic route to Southease today.
Sat Nav woman directed us down some delightful country lanes to the north of Lewes.
Then we came across a "Road Closed" sign.
A mile later there was a second sign, again with the words "Road Closed".
Of course we kept going.
After all there was a farm vehicle, and a bike coming towards us, so why not?
Sat Nav woman was still sounding confident too.
Then we came across two cyclists who were using the raised path on our left.
The leader says its showing as about 18" deep, I think you could get through.
Roz wasn't so sure.
We turned around.
There is a way that seems right to a man,
but its end is the way to death.
Proverbs 14:11 ESV
I'm not implying we would have died if we'd kept on going, but the voice of reason in the front passenger seat made the right call.
It's quite possible my car would have suffered terminal damage if the engine had ingested water.
In the Garden of Eden man went his own way, ignored God and decided to let the devil's advice hold sway. He didn't "die" there and then, but metaphorically he died, having lost communion with his creator. His literal death came later, but it needn't have been that way.
When we choose to "go our own way" we are taking a chance, whether it be one more drink, one more snack, or looking at something which isn't good for us.
You may just be trying to show off.
If doesn't always end well.
