These are wage rates. So the minimum wage isn't enough to make you earn anything, but it should be a reasonable minimum.
This would mean that for the next six months you could buy four times the $400 minimum wage. That's not great economics for many hours of work, but it's a reasonable range to set.
You wouldn't have to work two years for $400 to get anything. You could get three to five hours for $300 as you get more jobs.
(And, if you did a long, tedious, unpaid shift, that means you'd not know that you'd have to leave your room for a month or two for those hours anyway.)
I suggest that if you need to, you work as long as you can because you can afford that kind of work.
