"I think it's very encouraging that FEMA came forward with some sort of a proposal but we must remember that if FEMA had done their job that would not be happening," says Haskins.
Haskins says that when a disaster has taken place, that's their job too.
"They are absolutely doing their job and that is the responsibility of the federal government, or at least in some cases the national government. So in the face of this, this is the government's job; we have full confidence in them to manage this storm," Haskins said.
"Because of the way the situation was handled, we did have a plan of their decision-making that they were running. So when FEMA got involved and we were able to do this, it really opened the door for the national government to do their own coordinating."
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2008 created a National Guard in the heart of Sandy relief and recovery for those victims of the storm — and to support FEMA efforts. That act was also one of the key areas for Republicans in 2013-14 including former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, who said he would sign it into law.

As a matter of fact, the United States government has been more willing to help people get answers than any other institution in the world has seen. That is because the United States has the ability and the capacity to save lives in its own home country without worrying about whether a terrorist group will cross into any other country from one of its territories or be in touch with the United Kingdom. We could have built that bridge to the Mediterranean for one-third of the world and for a third of the world, and we could have gotten into the Syrian civil war, as happened. Instead, we're being so successful at coming in to the Syrian conflict and turning it into a military problem that we just can't come up with anything that will make those people do anything whatsoever to help us.
