BrandBucket

So back at the end of 2019 I took a look at the most expensive names on BrandBucket. Interestingly not one of the names in that post are still on BrandBucket. You can take a look at those BrandBucket listings and their asking price at the time.

BrandBucket has been listing premium names for awhile now. Some make sense for a startup others may not.

The most expensive name listed is VYZ.com at $960,000. iCom.com is second at $840,000. The list has many 3L.coms.

Qco.com listed at $780,000 I was looking to buy this name for $30,000 on Sedo when someone else got there first. I waited a couple days and it was gone. Whether the sale was completed at Sedo or not I do not know but it was listed there with the buy it now.

Tin.com $750,000

One of oldest entertainment and humor websites back in the day was Break.com. The site shutdown in 2018, reopened in 2019 and shut down again. Listed for $690,000. Wikipedia notes:

In March 2018, Break.com inexplicably disabled all comments, user uploads and user pages on their site, putting an end to any kind of user interaction or participation. Viewership plunged, and on November 6 of that year, parent company Defy Media announced that it was ceasing all operations.

Viq.com $480,000, this time last year, Shane Cultra tweeted out he and Travis sold Niq.com for somewhere close to their $250,000 asking price on BrandBucket.

All in all there are 45 names priced at $250,000 or more, but this time around not one name is priced in the seven figure range. I cannot agree with BrandBucket's pricing on EndShutdown.com at $259,200. Not trying to be mean but if you played a game of which one of these names doesn't belong? I would say this name is not the quality that names like confidence.com or resolution.com convey.

Some not familiar with BrandBucket will ask why would you pay 30% to BrandBucket for a name that will get a ton of offers? There are different tiers for the premium names.

These are major names and I don't think most would give exclusivity to one brandable marketplace. These names cannot be on Afternic or DAN or GoDaddy. BrandBucket does have a partnership with Sedo so there is added exposure allowed there.

These would all be 15% commission unless they got a better deal.

  • 30% for names below $10,000 USD
  • 25% for names between $10,000 USD and $50,000 USD
  • 20% for names between $50,000 USD and $100,000 USD
  • 15% for names above $100,000 USD

So you get a better rate than you would at Afternic.
