The key difference between the two is the length of the scarf. The scarf will not take long to get started on the first attempt because from the first piece of fabric, it will not come into contact with the rest of the scarf (as a scarf comes with a number of holes to make it fit for you). However, you can't just throw a strand of yarn into the thread and you're done.
